Donovan Jones
President, Chief Executive Officer and Director
As President and CEO of CounterPath, Donovan Jones is responsible for all corporate and operational initiatives including the development and execution of the Company's corporate strategy. Donovan's leadership is instrumental in establishing CounterPath as a technologically innovative and high-growth company with a strong corporate culture.
Since joining CounterPath in 2005, Donovan has led the integration of three acquired companies, expanded CounterPath's portfolio to serve the expanding mobile VoIP market and grown the company's global customer base to over 280 Service Providers and enterprise vendors. Prior to CounterPath, Donovan worked in the investment banking industry and at TELUS, Canada's second largest telecommunications company. During his time with TELUS, Donovan held increasingly senior positions in Corporate Development and Client Solutions where he planned and executed a series of merger, acquisition and divestiture activities in the Telecommunications, Application Development and Data Network Integration space. He also was responsible for a $200M business unit focused on selling, implementing and managing enterprise voice, data and IP infrastructure.
In January of 2007, Donovan was awarded a regional top 40 under 40 award recognizing British Columbia's "brightest young business stars" under the age of 40. Donovan holds an MBA from the University of Calgary and an Economics degree from the University of Alberta.
David Karp
Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer for CounterPath, David Karp manages accounting, finance, planning and investor relations, allowing the company to better execute on its strategic and financial goals.
David brings more than fifteen years of corporate finance and operating experience to CounterPath. While VP Investment Banking at BMO Nesbitt Burns, David raised hundreds of millions of dollars through equity financings and managing a number of merger and acquisition. Previously, David was CFO for Chemokine Therapeutics Corp. where he was instrumental in the company's successful initial public offering and follow-on financing. Prior to Chemokine, David was CFO for Neuro Discovery Inc., a publicly traded investment company focused on biotechnology investing.
David holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, an MBA from the Ivey School of business in London, Ontario, and is a CFA charterholder.
Rick Harris
Executive Vice President, Sales and Business Development
As Executive Vice President of Sales and Business Development, Rick is accountable for accelerating revenue growth across all CounterPath’s global markets and driving business expansion. He is responsible for the development and management of direct sales, channel activities and new partnership strategy.
Rick brings over 20 years of international experience in Sales, Marketing, and Business Development to this role. Prior to joining CounterPath, Rick served as Vice President for North America sales at VeriSign, where he managed all aspects of sales for the company's Communications Service Group, as well as the North American telecom service provider and cable MSO markets. Rick also held several senior management positions at Nortel North America including Senior Vice President of the company's AT&T account. In addition, Rick served as Executive Vice President of sales and marketing for security consultant ICSynergy International where he managed all sales and business development, working with strategic partners such as Sun and Oracle. Rick has consistently achieved extraordinary results for his customers and is passionate about excellence in customer service.
Rick earned an associate degree in Electronic Engineering technology from UBC-Okanagan College and has completed executive development programs with Harvard University and the Centre for Creative Leadership in Colorado.
Todd Carothers
Senior Vice President, Marketing and Products
As Senior Vice President of Marketing and Products, Todd is responsible for Product Marketing, Product Management and Marketing Communications at CounterPath. He is focused on CounterPath's product strategy as well as go-to-market planning and bringing to market industry leading desktop and mobile softphones and end-to-end whole product solutions that drive Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) and Fixed Mobile Substitution (FMS) services for SIP-based and IMS operators.
Todd brings over 17 years of experience in Sales, Marketing, Product Management and Business Development to CounterPath. Prior to joining CounterPath, Todd served as VP, Marketing and Business Development at BridgePort Networks (acquired by CounterPath in 2008) where he lead the company's development and marketing of the SoftMOBILE and MobileSTICK solutions that enabled secure mobile communications across the PC desktop. Prior to BridgePort Networks, Todd held marketing, product development and business development positions at Malibu Networks, Adaptive Broadband (formerly California Microwave) and Sciforma Corporation.
Todd holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University, Chico with a minor in Computer Technology.
Robert Brown
Vice President, Product Marketing
Robert Brown is Vice President of Product Marketing for CounterPath. In this role, Robert oversees the development and execution of CounterPath's product marketing strategies, corporate communications and online marketing programs.
With more than 14 years of strategic and product marketing experience in the technology and telecommunications industry, Robert’s marketing expertise has helped elevate the CounterPath brand worldwide and has been instrumental in building out the company profile. Prior to joining CounterPath in 2006, Robert held multiple positions within TELUS Corporation, most recently serving as Director of Product Marketing for Centrex and Managed VoIP Services. During this time, he was responsible for various successful product launches and marketing programs focusing on growing the $140 million Centrex business across Canada and launching hosted VoIP services. He also played a key role in driving the VoIP convergence mandate throughout the TELUS organization.
Robert earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), certificates in Executive Development and Internet Marketing from the University of British Columbia and a diploma in Entrepreneurial Management from BCIT.
Michael Doyle
Vice President, Technology
In his role as Vice President Technology, Michael Doyle will focus on helping to shape our product and solutions roadmap for broader applicability and evangelizing the total CounterPath solution to customers and partners.
Michael has worked in the technology industry for over 20 years and brings a wealth of experience and talent across a broad range of disciplines. He co-founded Ubiquity Software Corporation and as CTO he influenced the technological direction which created one of the world’s first and most successful SIP Application Servers. In 2000, he helped procure venture funding for the company, which resulted in one of the largest VC software investments in the UK. Ubiquity was named Innovator of the year in 2001 by the British Venture Capital Association and was the recipient of four national R&D awards. In 2007 Ubiquity was acquired by Avaya Inc. for $145M. Throughout his career, he has been pivotal in establishing strong revenue pipelines and has contributed to the successful sales of core products and services to companies such as BT, Global Crossing, Verizon, COMCAST, United Online, Motorola, NOKIA, Siemens and numerous other high profile clients.
Michael holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science from University College London. In 2006, he was named one of the Top 100 voices of IP Communications.
Michael Hill
Vice President, Client Engineering
As Vice President of Client Engineering for CounterPath, Mike is responsible for the development and customization of the company’s desktop and mobile endpoints. Under Mike's leadership the company has streamlined its go-to-market approach for customizing endpoints while maintaining the highest quality of software and hardware for all customer segments.
Michael has over a decade of experience developing unified communication applications for both the enterprise and consumer markets. He joined CounterPath through the acquisition of NewHeights where he led the team responsible for the Mitel UC product. He also successfully led the development of several OEM products for Avaya, Nortel, Mitel and NEC.
Michael holds a Computer Science degree from the University of Victoria.
Terry Meredith
Vice President, EMEA Sales
As CounterPath’s Vice President of Sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Terry is responsible for the development and management of the company’s business within the region. He is focused on executing CounterPath's business development strategy in EMEA and is responsible, together with his team, for driving the sales efforts for the company’s range of Fixed-Mobile Convergence solutions into existing and new service provider customers.
Terry brings over 25 years of experience in the international telecommunications industry to this role. Prior to joining CounterPath, Terry served as Company Director at Applied Communications in the UK. Prior to this, Terry held senior sales positions in a number of companies including LiveWire Mobile (formerly NMS Communications), NexTone Communications, Ubiquity Software Corporation, Newbridge Networks, West End Networks, Nortel and Mitel.
Jim O'Brien
Director, NCG Customer Engineering
As Director NCG Customer Engineering, Jim O'Brien directs CounterPath's customer engineering team responsible for architecting customized solutions for CounterPath customers and well as integrating, deploying and supporting CounterPath's mobile VoIP solutions.
Jim has over 12 years of experience in VoIP and mobile engineering, development and deployment. Before joining BridgePort Networks in 2004 (now CounterPath), Jim was responsible for designing and deploying custom wholesale and enterprise VoIP services for Level(3) and Genuity customers, as well as managing a team of engineers which provided marketing, sales, and operations support. Earlier in his career Jim lead a group of engineers who were responsible for new product direction, development, and customer integration within GTE Internetworking's IP Telecom group.
Jim holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Jim has 10 patents issued or pending.
Nemer D. Abourizk
General Counsel
In his role as General Counsel, Nemer directs CounterPath’s legal activities in support of the company’s business, including sales and licensing, HR and IP management.
Having served as General Counsel for an evolving portfolio of mid-sized technology corporations, Nemer has successfully managed numerous acquisitions and private placements. He has also negotiated complex, multi-year, multi-million dollar agreements for the sale of products/software to tier one vendors and manufacturers located in North America, Europe, South East Asia and Japan.
Nemer is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Chemical Engineering).
Nemer was selected as a 2006 Forty Under 40 award recipient by the Ottawa Business Journal.
