Press ReleasesSIPquest Takes Home the Frost & Sullivan Excellence in Research Award in the IP MarketPala Alto, California - February 3, 2005 - Frost & Sullivan's recent analysis, Advances in Internet Protocols for Communication-SIP selected SIPquest, Inc. as the recipient of the 2005 Excellence in Research of the Year Award. This award recognizes the company's brilliance in session initiation protocol (SIP) research and development, and its invaluable product contributions in the voice over wireless fidelity (VoWiFi) domain. SIPquest's innovative VoWiFi concept is based on patented algorithms and a software-only approach. Since this software resides within the mobile device, it enables users to roam between the different access points of various vendors. It also surmounts the subnet roaming challenges and reduces the latency of handover to less than 10 milliseconds (ms). "SIPquest is not limited to innovation in just this area," says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst V.R. Yoges. "It has successfully designed and developed a whole suite of products, such as the SIP-H.323 gateway, audio/video/data servers, voice mail and auto attendant, as well as collaboration and mobile collaboration agents." SIPquest has also developed dual mode devices such as the typical cell phones with Wi-Fi interface. These handsets function as Wi-Fi-enabled devices when they enter the perimeter of a Wi-Fi hotspot and as normal cell phones outside of it. SIPquest is also conducting research in location-based rich presence and ad-hoc conferencing. It hopes to refine its technology to help users set their presence based on location. "SIPquest, in collaboration with Columbia University, has been working on several projects related to various aspects of VoWiFi roaming, rich presence capability, emergency service through VoIP, and the multimedia IP telephony collaboration suite," notes Yoges. "So far, SIPquest has been awarded four patents -- three in the area of Internet Protocol Private Branch Exchange (IP-PBX) and one for VoWiFi." This Frost & Sullivan Award is presented each year to the company that has conducted radical research capable of causing significant changes to its market. The results of its 'disruptive' research affect the market in terms of adoption, change, and competitive posture. Additionally, the award certifies the company's commitment toward differentiating itself based on science-backed services. SIPquest has exhibited overall superiority in the R&D of SIP applications as well as in advancing the VoWiFi concept. Its skill in developing several breakthrough product technologies is expected to help it remain a key innovator in this field.
