Active Deployments, Product Innovations, Funding Top the List
OTTAWA, Jan. 8, 2007 – FirstHand Technologies, an innovator in transforming smartphones and PDAs into full-featured business telephones, today announced achievements for 2006 in several areas, including the following:
- Active Deployments: A major European carrier delivered an enterprise mobility solution to its business customers using client applications from FirstHand Technologies.
- Active Field Trials: OneConnect, a division of Globalive Communications, offered its business customers a trial version of FirstHand Mobile Assistant for Blackberry devices. OneConnect’s intent is to deliver a full commercial service in the first quarter of 2007.
- Funding: FirstHand Technologies secured $7 million (US) in Series C funding.
- Product Introductions: FirstHand Technologies introduced Enterprise Mobility Gateway, a server product that works with the company’s client products — Mobile Assistant and Mobile Console — to enable mobile worker access to communications features previously only available through their desktop IP phones. Meanwhile, the firm also introduced Mobile Console 2.0, which is now interoperable with 3Com VCX, Nortel MCS 5100, Nortel MCS 5200, and BroadSoft BroadWorks. FirstHand Technologies continues to support more IP PBXs and IP Centrex than any competitors.
- Device Support: FirstHand Technologies added support for Nokia E60 and E61 devices, expanding its competitive lead in supporting mobile devices.
According to David Hattey, president and CEO of FirstHand Technologies, “We are proud of our achievements in 2006 and will expand on them this year. My prediction for 2007 is that it will be the year of mobile SIP and true fixed-mobile convergence. Road warriors and corridor warriors will be empowered with the ability to access presence, corporate directory, short digit dialing, office voice mail, instant messaging, click to call, and more from their smartphones and dual-mode devices over both the cellular and WiFi networks. FirstHand Technologies, working with leading OEMS, will be a driving force behind these innovations.”
